Last Days in Our First House

The first time we came out to look at our house, we arrived before the realtor and so decided to look at the yard while we waited. When we rounded the corner, Gabe and I just looked at each other and said "This is it" and we knew that we wanted our kids to grow up in this backyard at this house.

This is what we saw.

We had been used to living in the city, and so this was simply breath-taking.

Our cozy little house and amazing back yard.

We spent the next three years working on the yard, digging flower beds, building pergolas an fences and dog houses and chicken coops and setting up a playground - not to mention the inside: we tore out a wall and completely demolished our kitchen, and Gabe built cabinets and countertops, and we made it our own.

The inside was no joke.

We brought Olive home for the first time to this house. She reach every milestone here. I paced the kitchen while rocking her through her colic days. We spent our summers in the backyard picking berries and making mud pies, and I am so thankful for each and every one of the photos I have taken in this house because everything about it and all that it represents is so precious to me. I will miss this place. So very much. But I know that bigger and better things are ahead. While it will be hard to think about someone else living in my home, I hope that it brings them just as many beautiful memories as it has us.

And now it is on to our next phase. To be continued...
